We are excited to announce our next contribution of the 2014 NYC Building Code book to the NYSID Library. Through Contract Club: On the Shelf, the 2014 NYC Building Code will be available at both the Main Campus and Graduate Center as a “Library Use Only” resource for students and faculty to research and browse for the most up-to-date building codes for New York City.
Just published, this title is a fully integrated custom code based on the 2009 International Building Code. The 2014 NYC Building Code applies to the construction, alteration, modification, addition, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of buildings and structures in NYC. This code is part of the 2014 NYC Construction Codes, which become effective December 31, 2014. This will be of particular use and interest for students taking Codes and for students working on their thesis projects!
Is this a useful addition to the NYSID Library? Do you have any suggestions for the Contract Club to contribute next time? Please send us your suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org or comment directly below!

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a fantastic event at The Glasshouses in Chelsea.
The event was hosted by Brunn Rasmussen Auctioneers (a family-owned Copenhagen based auction house) as a precursor to the forthcoming International Auction (December 3rd, 2014) celebrating 100 Years of Hans Wegner.
On display were some beautifully selected and rare pieces to whet the appetite - that they definitely did. Wegner’s furniture is timeless and elegant with its very sculptural lines and beautiful joinery. The master himself said ‘Whatever you make, it is never final’. He would return to similar themes over and over again and he viewed errors as part of the creative process.
There was an interesting panel discussion of art historians and collectors (including our own Judith Gura) expressing their views and expansive knowledge on Scandinavian Design (and specifically Wegner’s), why it is ageless and interesting information on the Mid Century Danish furniture industry.
Here are some shots of some of the rare pieces on display – some only ever had 8 pieces made worldwide, such as the Dolphin Chair model below. The auction catalog we all received is like a coffee table book that features many of the original pieces.
The Dolphin Chair: 67,000 - 80,500 euro
Oak Deck Chair: 40,000 - 53,500 euro
Swivel Chair: 13,500 - 20,000 euro
Freestanding Solid Teak Desk: 20,000 euro
This was a great networking opportunity, at a brilliant venue overlooking the Hudson and another interesting learning experience. It reinforced my love of everything mid century.
